What a 'good school' rating actually means
Why a single number can't capture a school — and the three signals that almost always tell you more than the headline rating.
Ratings compress, context decompresses
Most ratings collapse test scores, growth, and demographics into a single number. That's useful as a triage filter and almost never useful as a decision input on its own.
Look at three things instead: year-over-year growth (is this school improving?), parent and teacher tenure (do people stay?), and program fit for your specific child.
